Article 35A: HCBA team to leave for Delhi to defend its validity | KNO

Srinagar, February 11 (KNO) : Amid government’s plea before Supreme Court to adjourn the hearing of petitions of challenging Article 35A, Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Monday asked the team formed for opposing the petitions to remain present in the Supreme Court of India on 13 and 14 February. According to a statement issued to KNO, the lawyers body said the team members will meet in Delhi on 12th of February positively, so as to devise a strategy for defending Article 35-A, seriously and effectively, before the Court. “It was also decided that any other member of the Bar Association who may be willing to join the team in Delhi is also welcome,” the statement issued to KNO reads. Government on Monday moved Supreme Court that the hearing of the petitions challenging validity of the Article 35 A should be adjourned till there is an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. The application was moved by the standing counsel for the state of J&K that since the matter is sensitive in nature and the state is under presidential rule hearing should be adjourned. The lawyers body said the team that will leave for delhi to defend the article 35 A includes M. A. Qayoom (President); Aijaz Bedar (Vice President); Mohammad Ashraf Bhat (Secretary); Adil Asimi, Joint (Secretary); Bilal Ahmad Wani (Treasurer); Z. A. Shah, Senior Advocate; Z. A. Qureshi, Senior Advocate; Riyaz Jan, Senior Advocate; Altaf Haqani, Advocate; Mufti Mehraj-ud-din, Advocate; Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Advocate; N. A. Ronga, Advocate; M. S. Reshi, Advocate; and Arshad Andrabi, Advocate.(KNO)
